Primary school of Gravouna -Gerontas - Zarkadia, Greece

The Primary school of Gravouna- Gerontas- Zarkadia Gravouna, 24km east from Kavala It was established in 1931. It’s first students – and for many years- came only from Gravouna. Since 19 students from the two other small villages, Gerontas and Zarkadia, have been taught, coming here by bus. This year we have 81 students between the ages of 6-12 years old. It used to operate in a small building. Many changes have happened the last six years. There are six classes- rooms. There is also a computer classroom with internet ( as in all the other classrooms) and a small library with books for students and teachers. There is a big yard outside the building where children can have their break, play, do an outdoor lesson and do the P.E. lessons. There isn’t a gym, as in the most primary public schools in Greece. This year we started working on some e- twinning projects. The students are enthusiastic about it. We also started another project, the “History of our schools”. This project will be finished by May. Then it will be presented at the first symposium of “Local History and Primary Schools of the Prefecture of Kavala” that it will take place in Kavala in June.
